Taking complete consideration of its plot, you might have already guessed where the story would end up. Truth is, it’s not difficult to form our conclusion as it heavily relies on tropes we’ve already seen before.

Thankfully, the creators of The Quarterback Next Door full movie did everything they could to offer a new perspective. One that fits into the young adult romantic comedy and the concept of Ms. Nobody x Mr. Popular. They executed it through a series of damning plot twists, jaw-dropping revelations, and paradoxical situations that brought the world to its knees.

One of the most engaging twists worth mentioning was the fact that Jamie and Skylar were once childhood sweethearts. Traveling back to the past, we’d see two young, innocent souls immersed in a budding romance and by the promise of adult love someday.

Things began to turn melancholic and frustrating when growing up became a hurdle in their growing love. It caused them to slowly drift apart until the worst happened and they become unknowingly strangers again.

Which is why when an incident caused them to interact, she did not expect that Jamie would be able to remember her. Not just her name or what grade they became friends, but her nickname, too, that was barely used.

What’s more surprising, he defended her in front of his alleged girlfriend and Skylar’s ultimate bully. If he could remember her so well, does that mean he knows the promise they had when they were young? If he’s indeed aware, why hasn’t he made any contact from the past years?

Is it because he just couldn’t find the perfect opportunity or are there deep reasons that Skylar has every right to know?

For years, Skylar deemed herself invisible in front of Jamie’s eyes. She believed in that assumption and feasted on self-pity and shame for not being able enough to gain his attention.

Upon hearing it, Skylar told him the resentment she had been carrying for years. She emphasized how he ghosted her out of a sudden without even saying anything. And when he came back, he acted as if he didn’t know her.

Jamie shared the sentiment as he thought Skylar has been looking at him like a dumb jock, hence, the avoidance. He thought all those years of ignoring him were the product of her displeasure with associating with students like him.

Now that the secrets are out and personal turmoils are given attention, Skylar thinks everything is going back to normal again. What happened for the next few weeks proved how wrong she was.
