Good Grief Movie Summary
Good Grief movie opens at a high-spirited and elegant party hosted by Marc (David Levy) and his husband–Oliver (Luke Evans) as they celebrate Christmas night with dear family and friends.
Oliver and Marc is the perfect gay couple who continously impress and live beyond expectations. Looking at them is like staring face-to-face with cupid. They’re brimming with love and nothing seem to be strong enough to set them apart.
One tragic car accident in front of their house and everything shatters into pieces.
Dreams are put into a halt and the void March has been avoiding since his mother’s death is looming above him again.
However, as if fate isn’t satisfied of his never-ending pain, it sets him up to deal with another harrowing revelation.
On his preparation for Oliver’s death anniversary, Marc finally gathers the nerve to read the Christmas card his husband left, only to find the jarring confession of a spontaneous affair back in France.
It shatters Marc to the core. In an attempt to know the truth and heal new emotional wounds it caused, he encourages his two best friends, Sophie and Thomas, to join him on a trip to France so he could retrace Oliver’s last steps and possibly understand the reason why he broke his vows and betrayed him when they were so happy back then.
For much of their stay in Paris, Marc tries to navigate a life that doesn’t fully equate to the turmoil he’s feeling inside. He crossed paths with Theo again, the French art conneiseur he met a while back, and pretty much the romance immediately bloomed.
With a new relationship underway, Marc entertains the idea that maybe, it’s possible to live a life beyond grief and Oliver’s memories. Just then, Sophie’s commitment issues and Thomas’ fear of not being ‘the one’ seeps out from the crack after an incident that put the three of them acting out on indecisiveness.
To solve this, Marc, Sophie, and Thomas ride out on a ferris wheel where each unearthes a way to resolve these baggages they’ve been carrying. After some quite time of rumination, March finally finds his resolve. He’ll return to London, sell Oliver’s house and start painting again.
Marc’s art exhibit at the end of the movie highlights his acceptance of Oliver’s death, albeit it wasn’t easy, and his openness to move forward and finally live a life with no regrets.
