Part 1: What Happens In Love Affair with Ex-Wife Book?
Main Plots
In the original book version of Love Affair with Ex-Wife, Lucy Harrison doesn’t have any memories of her biological parents. All that I remember about her is that her father died a long time before the book’s main plot began.
Lucy’s mother is not an accepting person, either. She grooms Lucy to be the “Mrs. Billionairess” and marry a wealthy person in the future. Yet, wealth doesn’t entice Lucy, which leads her to live a modest life just like everybody else.
At some point in her life, she flash-marries Vincent Davidson. Vincent Davidson’s truest identity is the Davidson Group’s CEO, yet, Lucy has no ideas about it. Vincent owns the largest playground with the most expensive shares and net worth. However, his fully masked presence prevents Lucy from seeing his face on their sudden marriage.
Sadly, the car crash involving her and her other best friends at her university’s welcoming party at night caused her to bleed and get hospitalized. Vincent immediately rushes to the hospital just to divorce her. He said it was because Lucy was ugly and that she should be fortunate enough to marry him.
She remembers a few things about her: Her full name, her jobs, her favorite colors and clothing styles, and others, but not so much about this Vincent guy.
In Love Affair with Ex-Wife movie, Lucy slowly recovers until five years have passed. At this point, Lucy finds herself as an art director in the Davidson Group’s division.
Still, she has no idea if the CEO is Vincent Davidson, her rightful husband. At the same time, people around Lucy continue to bully her due to her weak appearance and inability to stand up for herself.
Secretary Yvonne Catcher is Lucy’s worst bully, as Vincent’s grandmother approves her more than Lucy. Still, will Lucy be able to escape this vicious office woman? Will Vincent use his CEO power to support Lucy as a loving partner?
Themes
Love Affair with Ex-Wife book themes doesn’t only involve office romances, even though most chapters have office settings as the primary places. Secretary Yvonne Catcher isn’t the only person attending Vincent’s CEO room. Sometimes, other office departments, such as the online game and live streaming departments, are also present in the room if they have meetings.
Reading Love Affair with Ex-Wife book means remembering that one of the main characters comes from a wealthy family background. More precisely, Davidson’s mansion should play a pivotal role in determining the chapters’ stories. Vincent’s grandmother spends almost all of her old days here, discussing marriage and financial affairs with competent people around her.
Vincent’s grandmother also enjoys a cup of warm artisan tea. So, you will see more descriptions of it when you read this book. As a result, the time settings are mostly around the morning until the evening. Even so, the party that catalyzes the car collision happens at night, which makes this scene an exception.
Bullying is yet another theme I witness in Love Affair with Ex-Wife’s book. Yvonne Catcher is not only superficial; she is also a manipulative individual who uses a play dumb tactic and appears sociable to catch others off guard. She constantly commits fraud and pins the blame to make Lucy quit, but, thank Goodness, Vincent is on Lucy’s side.
Part 2: Supporting Characters Of Love Affair with Ex-Wife Novel
Yvonne Catcher
Having an athletic build and always dressing well are two things that make Yvonne Catcher a good-looking character in the universe of Love Affair with Ex-Wife book. As the secretary a.k.a. the second-in-command in the Davidson Group’s company, she commands attention from people around her through her sociable nature.
Unfortunately, Yvonne’s eyes for luxurious things don’t match her attitudes and characteristics. Deep down, Yvonne is a resentful, jealous, and disrespectful individual. She thinks she has the right to undermine people whom she deems lower than her.
Even if Lucy has become the art director in her department instead of only one of the seasoned talents, it doesn’t stop Yvonne from mistreating Lucy. She eventually gets her karma served as Vincent stands up for Lucy.
Paige Davidson
Paige Davidson’s husband’s death before the main plot in Love Affair with Ex-Wife Book starts makes her the single ruler over this super-wealthy family. As a grandmother, Vincent’s successful career and eventual happiness with the woman he loves most are two things she prioritizes the most.
Paige is around 70-80s, yet, she appears much younger than she is. Other people can mistake her for a woman in her 50s-60s. It is reasonable to assume Vincent’s good looks are parts of Paige’s unrivaled genetics.
However, she is prone to give tough love to strangers, especially people coming from a lower-class person like Lucy. She has also put masks on her grandson’s face in the marriage ceremony and taught him to hate Lucy while setting Lucy up against Yvonne. I would say she is the ultimate villain!
Peter Becks
Peter Becks’ roles in Love Affair with Ex-Wife book don’t stop in becoming another employee in the Davidson Group’s company. Rather than a secretary whose job descriptions involve accompanying the CEO without fighting, Peter looks more like Vincent’s security guard to me.
He holds a license in holding several weapons and is a master of at least two different martial arts techniques despite his harmless and petite figure. He is also one of the few characters to keep abreast of whatever happens to Lucy.
Peter’s debut appearances in Love Affair with Ex-Wife Book involve him protecting his boss and Lucy. He nearly becomes another party in Lucy and Vincent’s lives, for he has flirted with Lucy a little bit. His eventual surrenders to his boss mean he is a gentlemanly guy, and he might not know Lucy and Vincent’s mutual feelings when he flirted.
Part 3: Is Love Affair with Ex-Wife Story Based On A Movie?
Indeed, there is a short movie titled Love Affair with Ex-Wife. The themes and main plots are similar to the book version with some differences. Yet, it doesn’t mean the book version is based on the movie version.
The book and the movie versions have the same first names for the main characters: Lucy and Vincent. Both versions also have the office romance as the central theme in the story. Yvonne’s bullies in the book version are similar to Ingrid Solow and the gang’s bullies in the movie version, and I would say the bullies feel more brutal in the movie version.
The book version clearly identifies the characters’ professions: Art director, secretary, and others, which makes me doubt if the more generalized movie version acts as the base for the book story.
Anyway, I have recently watched a movie with a similar plot. The title is, The CEO’s Wife Is A Badass on ReelShort
This movie beautifully combines the identity reveal themes and the elements we see in the book and movie versions of Love Affair with Ex-Wife. I can feel everything in this movie: The brutal bullies in the workplace, the main female character as the art director living her modest life, and the drop-dead gorgeous CEO as the main female character’s husband.
I enjoy watching bullies like Ashley Turner and the office gangs fall apart as they gasp after they misunderstand the actual CEO’s wife! Cora Pearson, the rightful wife, will turn the tables against these bullies.
