It's evident that Evelyn and Bruce don't get along since the death of Mrs. Lowell. Toby, Evelyn's fiancé, fuels her anger towards Bruce, worsening their relationship.

They are arrogant towards Bruce as they leave talking about how their son is marrying a Vixen. Mr. Henley reminds his wife how their son Toby is stuck in a project and this engagement is only to use Evelyn as a scapegoat, so Toby doesn't end up in jail.

However, Mrs. Henley is not pleased with Bruce's absence. Despite Evelyn asking not to be there at the party, Bruce shows up worried for his daughter.
